Artificial Intelligence is overal. Maar het is ook een hype-begrip dat te pas en te onpas wordt gebruikt. Als ik op een nieuwe tool stuit die belooft presentaties met AI te maken, ben ik dan ook op mijn hoede.
Maar ja, een tool die met je meedenkt, met je meewerkt, die het simpel maakt om mooie presentaties te maken, is wel heel aantrekkelijk. En dus heb ik me toch op Beautyful.ai gestort. En dat is een aanrader. Probeer maar eens!
Hoe het werkt?
- Je begint met het kiezen van een van de vijftig templates. Tot zover niks nieuws.
- Begin daarna met het vullen van de template. Daar wordt het leuk, want Beautiful.ai verandert mee met de inhoud. “Don’t worry about changing fonts, lining up text boxes, or animating slides. Our “Design AI” automates these tasks so that you can focus on your content.“
- En de slimheid van Beautiful.ai gaat verder. De wetmatigheden van mooie en bekende presentaties zitten in de tool verwerkt. “So that your slides always look clean, modern, and professional.”
En Beautiful.ai wordt ook interessanter als je weet dat dit een begin is en als je de onderliggende visie op Design AI leest.

Beautyful AI zet Superhuman AI en Expert AI tegenover elkaar. De eerste repliceert het gedrag van mensen en doet het beter of sneller. De tweede wil de kwaliteit van de specialist democratiseren.
The goal of Expert AI is to give users access to a specific kind of human expertise that they either don’t possess themselves or can’t afford to hire.
Twee elementen kenmerken de expert, is de stelling. Enerzijds is er ‘factual knowledge’. Experts zijn er in taal bijvoorbeeld over eens wat een werkwoord of een zelfstandig naamwoord is en welke spellingsregels bestaan. Maar daarnaast is er zogenoemde ‘heuristic knowledge’. Er bestaan geen regels voor een goede tekst. Daar kunnen experts over van mening verschillen. Expert AI moet daarom volgens Beautyful.ai eigenzinnig zijn.
If the user is satisfied that the AI is delivering a result that (a) is consistent with what an expert would deliver, (b) she couldn’t have generated on her own, and © she can trust, then the AI is doing its job.
Om dat voor elkaar te krijgen is het bedrijf op de eerste plaats de regels waar veel mensen het over eens zijn in het geval van goed design in het systeem gaan stoppen. En daarna eigenzinnigheid en creativiteit gaan toevoegen.
Our expert system has an informed opinion of good design, can enforce that opinion, and adapts over time as rules and heuristics evolve. We may never be as “creative” as an elite human designer—and we may never get to a point where we can break our own rules—but we are confident that we can make good design a given for anyone who uses our tools.
Ik ben onder de indruk, maar Beautiful.ai staat ook nog in de kinderschoenen, zegt het bedrijf ook zelf als ze ingaat op de vraag waar de artificial intelligence van de ontwerpen uit bestaat.
We are currently using expert systems and heuristics (kinda old school AI) to make automatic layout decisions that adapt to your content. We also use some image analysis to automatically crop your images to the most interesting part depending on the crop size. While we currently aren’t using machine-learning yet, we are working on features to automatically analyze your presentation to point out places where things could potentially be improved as well as helping you structure your story or pitch.
